Who We Are
Welcome to the Lakewood Hills Neighborhood Association website. This site is designed to be a resource to the neighborhood for locating information, about events and important issues and latest news.
Our neighborhood association was created in 1981 by a group of people who were committed to help build a stronger neighborhood community. Their intent was to develop an organization that would bring neighbors together through activities and events. The association has evolved from a few people who gathered informally to discuss neighborhood issues to a large group of volunteers, who work diligently to provide multiple services and make our neighborhood a better place to live.
Our Mission
The primary goal of our association is to promote and preserve the well-being and protection of the neighborhood; assure its beauty, safety, and stability, plus encourage neighborliness and pride with mutual respect.
Our History
With a history dating back to the 1920s, the Lakewood Hills neighborhood features beautiful full grown trees with a harmonious mix of unique architectural designs that include Tudor and Colonial Revival-styles homes from the 1920s and 1930s, 1950s-era bungalows. More recently new with a variety of architecture styles have been built adding to the distinctiveness of our neighborhood.
Our neighborhood was originally owned by Clayton Brown, a prominent real estate man in the area (and the man after whom Clayton Ave. is named). He was also the president of the New East Dallas Association, an organization of all the property owners around White Rock that worked together to promote their common interests, who were instrumental as a group in having city utilities and services extended to the area. The neighborhoods around White Rock Lake were considered some of the most desirable in Dallas.
The original developer was J.W. Lindsey and Co. He developed the area with an eye toward natural beauty and recreational pursuits. The first house was completed in 1918, in the 6800 block of Clayton. Development continued into the fifties on Gaston, Casa Loma, Coronado, and Linden Ave. (La Vista).
The boundaries of our neighborhood are the south side of Gaston Avenue, west of East Grand and including the 7400 block of Coronado, Brendenwood, and north of the Santa Fe Trail. The neighborhood is comprised of 29 blocks and about 545 homes most of which are single-family homes.
Our neighborhood is located near some of the most desirable locations in the city. We are five miles from the heart of downtown, only minutes away from White Rock Lake, Fair Park, and the Dallas Arboretum.
